ToggleIt’s now been almost 8 years since we first launched our Storefront payment and registration system.
Over the course of those 8 years, we’ve worked with a variety of sports clubs, and we’ve learned a lot. It’s been an interesting journey because we’ve watched our customers make the transition from beginner users to sophisticated power users who have cleverly utilized the system to maximize revenues.
The purpose of this article is to pass on that experience to help you maximize your revenues. Specifically, I’ll go over how to utilize Checklick Storefront features with some simple, easy-to-implement processes and strategies.

- Simplify your Registration process
- Early Bird Registration Incentives;
- Utilize Waitlists to drive traffic to low registration weeks
- Consider a refund policy with a fee for cancellations
Simplify your registration process
Through Storefront, we can track the number of started registrations (payment intents) and the number of checkouts (successful payments). Based on those stats, we can see that Storefronts with the highest conversion rate of successful payments versus payment intents are the ones with the shortest checkout time.
So, in that context, what does simplifying the checkout process mean? Here are a few things to consider;
- Reduce the number of questions asked during the checkout process. Ask yourself which questions you can’t do without and which are in the “it would be good to know” category.
- Remove redundant questions – Go through your checkout process as a customer and validate that there are no overlapping or similar questions.
- Simplify your discount structure if possible – Overcomplicating your discount structure can be confusing to the user. Is there a way to maintain the same maximum revenue potential while simplifying the discount structure? It might be a good idea to revisit your discount structure and see if there are opportunities to move away from the “it’s just the way it’s been done for years” approach.
Early Bird Registration Incentives
When we look at registrations for March break or summer camps, we see a big spike in volume starting in late December that continues until the end of February.
Given that there tends to be this early-season spike, you can create a sense of urgency to maximize this window and offer a small order discount on early registrations. As your discount deadline approaches, you can generally expect a spike in registrations.
There are advantages to knowing your registration numbers in advance. You’re afforded the opportunity to gauge the popularity of your classes and hire accordingly. In addition, if you utilize waitlists, you’ll be able to reshuffle your hires in advance to accommodate your more popular classes.
I’ll discuss how to utilize waitlists next.
Utilizing waitlists
- You can view past year’s waitlist registrants to observe trends in which classes and, more specifically, which dates of your classes have proven to be popular in the past. This way, you can determine your coach/instructor hiring accordingly
- Waitlists allow you to capture leads, which you can then reach out to offer either similar classes but for different dates or be proactive and suggest booking in advance for the following season
Consider a Refund Fee for late cancellations
This doesn’t necessarily fall under the category of maximizing revenues, but it’s something that will protect you from covering any credit card refund fees. Consider adding a policy to your terms of service to ensure that you’re not out of pocket and that your customer is made aware of that policy during the registration process. In Checklick, this is printed right on the customer’s receipt with their digital signature and the date.
